The perfect purity of Jesus falls on us like late-Spring snow, so thick, so heavy, and it breaks off the branches in our hearts, minds and spirits that are dead; dead weight. In the same way, the power of the winds of the Holy Spirit confront us - an overwhelming force - and we see other dead branches cast off, broken off. We hear the crack, the pop, the falling away; Jesus and His Holy Spirit are so perfect, so powerful, so unstoppable in their work within us.
Sometimes fear grips our hearts. Is all this turning out to be too costly?
Yet consider that a tree forever unpruned will eventually topple under the total accumulation of such dead weight. It's actually either for those dead branches to fall now - or us forever.
So, yes, more today, Jesus. More today, Holy Spirit.
